Creating DirectX Diagnostic (DxDiag) Reports

A DirectX Diagnostic (DxDiag) report is a file created by the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag.exe). This tool tests DirectX functionality on computers running the Windows operating system and saves the results as a text file. The subsequent report has detailed information about your computer's graphics, sound, and other devices, which is used for troubleshooting.

To help us identify the cause of technical issues, you can create and attach a DxDiag report to your ticket.

This article describes how to create a DxDiag report for Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7 and how to attach this report to a ticket.

Running the DxDiag tool

To run the DxDiag tool:

1. Open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
   Note: Depending on your version of Windows, you can open most apps and tools in different ways. Some of the most commonly used methods are described below.
   • Windows 10 and Windows 8
     Do one of the following:
     • Click Start to access the Search box (if hidden), type dxdiag, and then select the DxDiag Run command.
       
     • Right-click Start and select Run. In Open, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
       
   • Windows 7
     • Click Start, in the Search box type dxdiag, and then press Enter.
       
2. From the System tab, click Save All Information.
   
3. Save the text file to your Desktop using the default file name (DxDiag).
   

You can now attach the DxDiag.txt file to your ticket.

Attaching DxDiag reports to tickets

To attach a DxDiag file to a ticket:

1. From the Submit a Request form, go to the Attachments section.
2. Drag your file to the dropzone or click Add file to browse for and select your file, and then click Open.
   After the file uploads, it appears toward the bottom of the Attachments section.
   
3. Repeat the steps above to attach other files, as needed.
4. To remove an attachment, click the remove  icon next to the file that you want remove.
